In Memory

Joe Hosey

Joe Hosey

Joe L. Hosey passed away peacefully at home on October 30, 2013, surrounded by family and friends, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born July 29, 1952, in Great Falls, Montana to Lemuel and Marguerite Hosey. He lived in Hawaii and Oklahoma before coming to Kansas in 1958. Joe worked for Fleming Foods until they closed in 1994. He then found his dream job working as an animal care technician for Hills Pet Nutrition. He always said, “I can’t believe they pay me to play with dogs.” Joe retired from Hills in March of 2011. In addition to his full-time job, he owned and operated his own lawn care business for many years. He always considered his co-workers and customers his friends, and he had many friends.

Joe lived and enjoyed his life to the fullest. He was a licensed pilot and among his passions were his airplanes, both large and small. He also loved riding his Harley Davidson. Each year Joe would celebrate his birthday by going to Oshkosh and Sturgis. He loved to travel and among his favorite places to visit were Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Canyon. Joe went on several  cruises including ones to Mexico and the Caribbean.  Joe was preceded in death by his father and mother. Survivors include two brothers, Daniel Hosey and William Hosey, both of Topeka; four sisters, Jennifer Siami of Manchester, England, Janie Street, Melinda Shows and Clarinda Visitation:

Joe, (my friend, my brother...),

I've had the hardest time trying to write something here; the emotions make this difficult to write, the tears make it hard to see the words on the page. We were friends, buddies and brothers through grade school, Jr. High and High School. We were bad kids together, and grew to be better men separately. You were the "tough guy" that I always wanted to be. It blesses me so much to see the names and stories of the lives of the people that you have touched and impacted; evidence of a life well-lived.

You will be forever in my heart and in my memories. I love you, Joe. Godspeed, my friend, my brother...
