Obituary as published in the Tallahassee Democrat for Marilyn (Whitaker) Thompson
Marilyn Kay Thompson
May 6, 1953 - January 20, 2014
Loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Marilyn Thompson felt the warm embrace of her Lord and Savior on January 20, 2014. Marilyn is survived by her mother, Laura Siebert of Topeka, Kansas; her sister Mona Gay Williamson of Pace, Florida; her husband Paul Thompson of Tallahassee, Florida; her son Matthew Thompson (and his wife Evie) of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; and grandchildren Laina, Mason and Grant Thompson.
Marilyn was born in Fort Leonard Wood (military base) in Missouri and lived for three years in Germany as her father (Robert Whittaker) served in the U.S. Army. She grew up in Topeka, Kansas and Pensacola, Florida, where she met Paul. They were married on June 9, 1972 in Pensacola. Marilyn received her Associate of Arts degree from Tallahassee Community College in 1978 and graduated summa cum laude from Florida State University in 1980 with a degree in nursing.
As a registered nurse, Marilyn worked at hospitals in Tallahassee, Florida and Thomasville, Georgia and for several Tallahassee-area physicians. During her time in Tallahassee, Marilyn was an active member of three local churches: First Baptist, North Florida Baptist, and Bradfordville First Baptist. Marilyn loved to cook, take morning walks with Paul, and help family and friends.

I'm so sad to see another classmate has gone before her time. I remember Marilyn as a kind person, from reading her entries into the guestbook, it looked like she remained that way through the rest of her life. My prayers are for her husband, her son and his wife, and for Marilyn's Grandchildren.
